Metropolitan Metodiy Kusev Park

One of the largest and most attractive parks in Stara Zagora is the park „Metropolitan Metodiy Kusev “, which is often called „Ayazmoto“. Legends have been spread about it since time immemorial, and its greatest treasure is hidden deep among the long alleys and greenery of the park.

Located on 3,200 acres, the park is a favourite place for walks, recreation and entertainment in the company of family and friends. Walking along the ancient cypress trees and the alley with the fountains, you can imperceptibly reach the chapel „St. Theodor Tiron“. The legend about this place, passed on by Metodiy Kusev, says that Tsar Boris was baptized there. Later on, Stara Zagora was one of the main centres of Christianity and its spread in Bulgaria. The ancient legends also claim that from time immemorial there was a shrine and a spring with healing water at the top. You can still immerse your hand in the cold and healing water that is cooling off and telling legends. For the animal lovers, park „Ayazmoto“ hides a zoo where you can have a closer look at animals that have come here from different parts of the planet, as well as animals healed at the Wildlife Rescue Centre of „Green Balkans“. Another treasure of the park is „The Hall of Laughter“ – where among the funhouse mirrors you can see yourself and others from a completely different angle and have a good laugh. And during the warm months of the year, the young lovers of adventure and extreme experiences should not miss the Rope Garden, which is close to the zoo. And in order for make a wish come true, don't forget to caress the bronze figures of the frogs, which are part of the eponymous fountain „The Frogs“ at the foot of „Ayazmoto“.
